Debbie Carpenter
Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office - Deputy State Fire Marshal
Debbie Carpenter brings 30 years of experience in fire and emergency services, having held every position from probationary firefighter to fire chief. While she is technically retired from an emergency response agency, the expertise she has gained throughout her career positions her as a valuable resource for those looking to leverage the opportunities and support provided by Women in Fire to advance their careers in the fire service.
A strong advocate for women and other underrepresented groups in public safety, Debbie has dedicated her career to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the fire service. As an inaugural member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs' (IAFC) Diversity Executive Leadership Program (iDELP), she has worked to advance inclusivity at the highest levels of leadership. She played a key role in developing the IAFC’s Guide for Creating a Diverse and Inclusive Department and served as a co-chair on the IAFC's Training and Education Development Committee.
Further demonstrating her leadership in shaping the future of the fire service, Debbie was invited to participate in Wingspread VII in 2021, where she contributed to the development of a strategic framework for fire and emergency services for the next five years. Through her experience, advocacy, and commitment to mentorship, she continues to support and inspire the next generation of fire service professionals.
