The City of El Segundo is ideally located on the Santa Monica Bay encompassing over five square miles. El Segundo is a General Law city that operates under the Council-Manager Form of Government. The City is governed by a five-member City Council elected at large, on a non-partisan basis, to four-year overlapping terms. The City delivers a comprehensive range of municipal services through nine major departments (including police and fire) with approximately 362 full-time equivalent employees and a total budget of approximately $160 million.

The City of El Segundo is seeking a highly qualified and experienced fire management professional to be its next Fire Chief. The Fire Chief serves as the Executive Director of the Fire Department and plans, directs and manages the development, operation and evaluation of all services and activities provided by the City’s Fire Department including: fire suppression, fire prevention, fire investigations, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness and hazardous materials programs. The Fire Chief is a member of the City’s Executive Team and provides highly responsive and professional staff assistance to the City Manager and City Council. The Department operates two fire stations and has 49 full-time staff.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or a directly related field is required; and Requires ten years of increasingly responsible professional fire suppression/prevention and fire administration experience, including five years of fire department management and supervisory experience, three of which must be at the rank of Fire Battalion Chief or above. California State Chief Officer, Chief Fire Officer Certification or equivalent is preferred.

Salary: up to $201,121 to $241,346 DOQ + benefits.
